TRAILER TRAINING
If you passed your driving test after 1st January 1997, you will need to take a separate test to tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of more than 750kg, or a combination of vehicle and trailer with a MAM exceeding 3,500kg. MAM is the limit on how much the vehicle can weight when it is loaded. This test is called the Car and Trailer Driving Test, and is also referred to as the B+E Test.
You do not need to take another theory test.
On the test you will asked to perform:
An Eyesight Test
‘Show Me, Tell Me’, Vehicle Safety Questions
Reversing Your Vehicle
General Driving Ability
Independent Driving
Uncoupling and Re-coupling Trailer
You will be driving for around 50 minutes.
As with all other driving lessons everyone is different, and you can take your trailer test as soon as you are ready. There is no requirement to complete a minimum number of hours tuition, before taking your test. If you have grown up on a farm, for example and have had plenty of practice towing trailers off road, you may be ready in a day. If you’ve never towed or reversed a trailer, it may take a few days to become competent and safe.
Our most popular course takes place over three days, consisting of four hours training each day. You will take your trailer test during the last part of the third day. The cost of this course is currently £625.
