Most of our clients over the years tend to have one 2 hour lesson a week. We can provide 1, 1.5, 2 or 3 hour lessons. In our experience a 2 hour or 1.5 hour at least are the best. The reason is a 1 hour session doesn’t really benefit you. It would take us three 1 hour sessions to teach you the same thing we could cover in one 2 hour session. Here’s why:

1 hour session:

10am pick up

10:00-10:05 recap last lesson, cover today’s subject before we set off (example:roundabouts) perform cockpit drill.

10:05-10:25

Leave home/college and drive to training area (example: Crowland to Peterborough).

10:25-10:40

Arrive and have full briefing and then start practical learning.

10:40-10:55

Drive back to Home or finishing destination.

10:55-11:00

Debrief the lesson, plan next lesson and book next lesson.

Do you see the problem? Only 15-20 minutes maximum teaching time on the subject. You’d never get around a test route for instance to perform a mock test in a one hour lesson. A 2 hour session follows exactly the same itinerary except we have an hour and fifteen minutes to focus on the subject in the middle of the lesson.

We also understand that driving lessons are expensive and that not everybody can afford a 2 hour lesson every week which is why they go for a hour. Overall you’ll do a lot more hours and spend more money so we encourage you to have a 2 hour session every other week. Of course there are also clients who have the money for driving lessons ready and waiting, and want to do more than one session a week. We can accommodate this with what we would call semi intensive lessons. Many of our clients over the years have had two or three lessons a week and have passed very quickly. We do not offer a start from scratch on a Monday and take your test on a Friday scenario as we do not feel this is safe option. That sort of intensive training is designed to get someone through their test, not to make them a good driver, in our opinion.

Driving is like everything else in life, some people will find it easy and breeze through and some people will find it more challenging. The DVSA says the average person needs 45-50 hours with a driving instructor and a further 20 hours of private practice. We have had clients of all different abilities and some have gone through in under 20 hours with no other practice whatsoever, whereas a few have had over the 50 hours and plenty of extra practice before passing their test. Why not book a two hour lesson and we can give you an honest assessment of your ability. Our average for most clients is around 30-35 hours.
